  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mylo Carbia is a former Hollywood screenwriter turned #1 bestselling author widely known for her work in the horror-thriller genre and trademark of surprise twist endings. Her writing style has been described as "a perfect mix between Stephen King, M. Night Shyamalan and Quentin Tarantino, but infused with a signature female sharpness that is all her own."

Born and raised in Jackson, New Jersey, Carbia famously spent her childhood years writing to escape the horrors of growing up in a severely haunted house. By the age of 17, she was already well established as a prolific young playwright. At the age of 30, her very first screenplay was optioned only 28 days after completion, earning Carbia a "three picture deal" and the cover of Hollywood Scriptwriter in 2003.

After that time, Carbia quietly penned numerous television and film projects under her production company Zohar Films—earning the nickname “The Queen of Horror” and the reputation of being Hollywood’s No. 1 horror film ghostwriter.

In 2015, Carbia left Hollywood to release a series of bestselling novels all featuring strong female protagonists. Her debut novel The Raping of Ava DeSantis won numerous 'Best Novel of the Year' awards and hit #1 Bestseller in New Releases (Amazon), #1 Bestseller in American Horror (Amazon) and #1 Bestseller in Horror (Barnes & Noble) only two days after its official release, and continues to receive critical acclaim from both avid readers and critics worldwide.

Today, Carbia lives with her husband and youngest son in New York City and South Florida. She continues to write exclusively for the literary world and plans to release seven more novels over the next several years.

  PROLOGUE

Atlanta, Georgia. The city that survived General Sherman’s torch in 1864, the death of Martin Luther King in 1968 and the Feline Plague of 2025, symbolizes the humble yet impenetrable warrior strength best embodied by Atlanta from the Ashes: a bronze statue of an angel raising a phoenix to the sky in Woodruff Park.

The city’s oldest and wealthiest families have most impressively adapted to our ever-changing landscape, morphing from close-minded white plantation owners to migrant worker presidential candidate supporters in less than a millisecond by historical time standards.

But Atlanta’s success over the past three hundred years required more than a penchant for resiliency, it depended upon a network of powerful, cunning strategists to stay relevant and alive. Some call it The Good Ole Boy Network others consider it remnants of Confederate Pride. Whatever one may label it, this cadre of powerful men is responsible for both the birth—and rebirth—of America’s most elegant and modern city in the South.

But as any notable historian will tell you…

All of these bastards must die.

  CHAPTER 1

  Welcome To The Masquerade

  Tuesday, October 3, 2006

  9:46 P.M.

Once a gleaming four-story nightclub catering to Atlanta’s mosh-pit-addicted youth, Le Masquerade had become a seedy members-only fetish club reduced in size to its former bi-level storage basement with a bustling organic foods market standing above as its pretentious keeper.

Inside, the club was dark, run-down and relatively empty for a weeknight (you know, Fridays for wives, Saturdays for sidepieces and Sundays for confession). On the main floor, a heavily-tattooed stripper danced center stage. She was petite and naked, of course, except for a pair of six-inch spike heels and a leather executioner mask with a zipper for a mouth. Her bright yellow eyes behind the mask revealed a vacant spirit, one that was completely immune to the pulsating techno music eroding the rotting plaster surrounding her.

In the audience, sitting alone, was Sebastian O’Connor, a pudgy Southern businessman in his mid-thirties. He would have blended in with the pedestrian audience if it weren’t for his armpit-stained Gucci dress shirt contrasting with his perfectly coiffed strawberry blonde hair. Couple that with his near-transparent skin (a shade that bragged a bloodline successful in avoiding the human chattel that once graced his family’s hundred-acre farm) and one could tell that this clown was a valid member of local royalty.

Sebastian’s affinity for the bondage world started at a young age (eight years old to be exact) when his Jamaican nanny caught him stealing gum from her purse and beat his ass so badly that it stung for hours. It was at this exact time that Sebastian experienced his first erection. Perhaps nothing more than a coincidence but more likely he’s been unable to separate the two events ever since.

Add this early experience to the gnawing silence of a drone-at-home wife managing the deafening chaos of three offspring under the age of five, and one can see what drove Sebastian to seek escapism here at least once a week. Fortunately, his role as a hedge fund manager gave him good reason to stay out late entertaining imaginary clients, particularly foreign ones unable to speak English well enough to tour the city on their own.

  ***

Utterly transfixed by the erotic executioner dance before him, Sebastian felt brazen enough to start touching himself under the table. This was the kind of place where anything goes, except the use of cell phones and cameras, which always had to be surrendered to the green-haired goddess at the front door.

Just as Sebastian began moving clandestinely to unzip his fly, a young, blonde, multi-body-part-pierced waitress interrupted him to serve another shot.

“Need something else?” she slurred. Moving slower than usual, the waitress struggled to add a fresh drink to the shot-glass-graveyard on his table.

Sebastian’s attention immediately shifted toward her flawless yet filthy body wrapped tightly in an oxblood leather mini-dress.

“What’s your name again, sweetness? My memory’s shit.”

Lost in her own smack-induced world, the waitress failed to respond. Sebastian suddenly grabbed her pot-holed arm, pulling her body close to his.

  “What’s your name again?”

  “—Jah, Julie.”

She stood motionless until Sebastian released his grip, graciously allowing her to continue clearing asshole shot glasses from the table.

“I’m finally ready for some champagne, Jewel-yah.”

The waitress mustered all her strength to speak at a normal pace. “Sure…okay…who do you want?”

Sebastian looked around the room, carefully considering his options. In one corner, he watched a dark Latino man in pristine white underwear dance for a gay couple…In another, he witnessed an eighty-year-old redhead licking the shoes of a young black businessman…And in the roped off VIP section, he noticed a barely legal Japanese schoolgirl performing a lap dance for a local sports anchor slash twice-convicted pedophile.

  “Just
bring me one of your new girls.”

The waitress acknowledged his order, piled the last two empty shot glasses on her overcrowded tray and left as fast as, uh, slow as she could.

  ***

At least ten minutes had passed when a tall, thin, elegant woman dressed in full leather gear appeared at Sebastian’s table.

“You or-der champagne?” Her deep, velvety voice was contaminated by a thick Russian accent.

  “Yes, ma’am. I did.”

  “Good. I’m Vendela. Follow me.”

Sweet Jesus. Sebastian was thrilled to get new blood that’s usually sourced from local runaway shelters. But this time, the dominatrix gave the impression that she was an old pro. Perhaps a visiting artist from another country? Definitely in her early-thirties, but still in her prime in every way.

Sebastian followed the dominatrix through the main nightclub and into the stairwell. From the back, she strutted an incredible young, tight body. Her thigh-high boots, matching thong and leather suspenders made her the prized snatch of the club. Her long-legged gait was rhythmic and reminiscent of a Clydesdale horse (you know, just like the coke-snorting, seven-figure superstars that glide across the runways of Paris each fall). Naturally, her ass was also perfect. Not too small, not too large but shapely in all of the right places. But what was most intriguing about this woman was the tattoo peeking from underneath her suspenders. It was some sort of large, black tribal symbol that spanned blade to blade across her back. Sebastian could not see the tattoo in detail, nor could he see her face from his vantage point, but he could acutely smell the brand new synthetic, black, bobbed wig and old leather biker cap she was wearing.

The dominatrix led Sebastian down a flight of stairs into The Dungeon, which also had the distinct honor of being the most subterranean basement in all of downtown Atlanta. At the bottom, they entered a long dark corridor lined with red curtained stalls. Flickers of candlelight bounced off the ceiling while the faint sound of music from the club upstairs and the new sounds of whips and moaning mixed together in an eerie way.
